Over the summer I was really enjoying vinho verdes (apparently there are both white AND red varieties, but only the whites are imported to the USA because our palettes aren't refined enough for the reds). A nice amount of sweetness, very bubbly, tangy... perfect for a hot summer afternoon! I like a lot of different labels. There was one I bought in Maine a lot with blue vines on the label... unfortunately I can't remember the name.
Of course, now I'm looking for something a bit hardier... any suggestions?
(I'd ask about beers too, but I assume we're all drinking our own delicious local specialties.)
It was definitely a summer of rose' for me. A couple of favorites were Charles and Charles and Toad's Hollow "Eye of the Toad" which is a pinot noir rose.
ReplyDeleteAs we move into fall, I'm into reds, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and assorted Spanish Reds. I've also been really enjoying Bourbon, especially Manhattens.
Fun idea, Caters!
i love the vino verdes too! definitely a well kept secret. another kind of wine in the same category (kinda) is Cava which is Spain's version of sparkling, bubbly, deliciousness.
ReplyDeleteIn France, I also fell in love with Viognier. Most of the French Viognier you find here is overpriced but I found one for $11 that's pretty solid by Toasted Head.
In other news, Tom White made me a pomegranate martini with lunch today. He even made his own simple syrup and pomegranate juice. I love my daddy.
Oh my god you have to invite me next time you lunch with Tom and Lynn.
